Happy 100th Birthday, Professor John B. Goodenough!

July 22, 2022

On July 22, 2022, the University of Texas at Austin celebrated the 100th birthday of Prof. John Bannister Goodenough (born July 25, 1922) — winner of the 2019 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, co-inventor of the lithium-ion battery, and a mentor and friend to the Enpower Greentech team.

The John Goodenough 100th Birthday Symposium at UT Austin brought together leading battery researchers from around the world — among them his fellow Nobel laureates M. Stanley Whittingham and Akira Yoshino — to honor a career spanning seven decades, from uniquely bridging solid-state chemistry and physics in the early 1950s to the battery breakthroughs that power our world today. The research community also dedicated commemorative publications to his centennial.

Our founder and CEO Dr. Sam Dai, who completed his doctoral studies under Prof. Goodenough at UT Austin, was honored to join the celebration in person. Prof. Goodenough's encouragement to “build products to meet society's needs” continues to guide Enpower's mission for safer and better performing batteries.
